At The Flying Shack, we operate our own fleet of 3-axis & weightshift microlight aircraft.
In the UK, if you want to learn to fly in a microlight (and you don't actually own one yourself) then you can only learn on a factory-built aircraft. Once you've gained your NPPL-M (National Private Pilots Licence for Microlights) then if you want to hire an aircraft from a club it must be factory-built and must be maintained to a stricter discipline than that for a privately owned aircraft.
All our aircraft are factory-built and are maintained to a set schedule, being inspected by a BMAA (British Microlight Aircraft Association) Inspector at each service or maintenance task.
Here's the lowdown on our current fleet...
Evektor EV-97 Team Eurostar
We own two Eurostar aircraft. The Eurostar is a state-of-the-art Microlight which is often mistaken for a "real" aeroplane - and indeed it outperforms many older, larger aircraft.
It's an all-metal design originating from the Czech Republic, with a very reliable & powerful Rotax 912 4-stroke engine. Our aircraft were built in 2007.
Typical cruising speed: 80-100 mph
Fast cruise 115 mph
Power-off, level Stall speed 44 mph
Average fuel consumption 11 ltrs/hr
Pegasus Quantum - The Quantum is a classic
2-seat weightshift (flexwing) trainer. It has a Rotax 582 engine and is an open cockpit aircraft. We use this to give trial lessons & instruction on weightshift microlights.
Typical cruising speed: 50-65 mph
Fast cruise 65 mph
Power-off, level Stall speed 30 mph
Average fuel consumption 10-15 ltrs/hr
